Why go to Alpine Meadows at Lake Tahoe? Sunshine and groomers. Yes, we left powder, more powder, and a great storm. BUT, my body at 74 is having major spine surgery in March. I cannot backcountry ski this season, but Jill and I needed to use some days on our Mountain Collective passes. So we took the campervan and are chasing sunshine.
We have skied Alpine for 20 plus years, and it is a large area with a huge following. Park your vehicle next to the Subway lift and you will see the following: families with kids and dogs putting out chairs and tables, plus great ski and snowboard folks. There are all kinds of nooks and crannies to be skied. Yes, Squaw Valley purchased Alpine years ago, but the Alpine locals only ski Alpine.
We followed the sun and the softened trails. We also backcountry skied in the area a few years ago. It's a great area. We're always amazed at how much we like Alpine Meadows.
