One of the better days on the mountain this year. Weather was broken high overcast all day, but never caused visibility problems and the temperature was comfortable. Anything south facing was completely wind-scoured with a couple inches on top. Anything north facing was powder deep enough you didn't hit the firm underlayment. So, GV right, Powder Bowl, and Bear Pits all really good. Best run of the day was bottomless Northway Bowl until it wasn't. As the day wore on, the front side got really good as the new snow mixed with the hard underneath with Sunnyside being really nice. Took Exterminator out for the last run and it was less than great as it had also been wind damaged. Bull Run looked better as we skiied by it thinking Exterminator on the other side of the ridge would be better. Nope.
No lines today with only one exception at peak morning on GV chair. On the way out, B lot was mostly full as was C and D lots. No one in H or F lot. Not sure where all those people were. Good to be back to normal mid-week.

The mountain is definitely in full Recover Mode, finally, and an another excellent day from Powder Bowl to Northway Bowl ensued. I couldn’t figure out any rules for where it would be wind scoured or deep pow. So, had to try them all. Every run had its good spots - some the occasional ice patch of doom, some hidden avie debris here and there and in unexpected places (but we exposed it for tomorrow). Each Run-of-the-Day got bumped down by the next run as we moved around. Enough of a crowd it’s pretty skied out, but no lines.

Today Thursday was a return to the days of light lines, great snow, great weather and a whole lot of fun. Just about everywhere were was good, even the groomers were creamy and fast. It's amazing the difference a few days of snowfall combined with cold temperatures can make. We warmed up on FQ downhill and went straight to Chair 6 after it opened. The traverse over to Hamburger wasn't bad at all and snow on the main hill was sott and bottomless. You could even find a few untracked lines. Powder Bowl was equally good but there were a few crunchy spots and big frozen clumps down low. Still worth a few repeats. You still have to step over a few rocks on top but not too bad. Headed out to ski Northway trees but it wasn't as good as we'd hoped. However the bottom half groomer part of Northway was in great shape. Green Valley bowl skiers right was soft with mild bumps, mostly skied up but still with plenty of fluff, and down to West Face where we agreed was the best snow we found all day. Ann's Run was good too. Lucky Shot was as good as it gets, packed powder with soft piles and mild bumps. Overall it was quite the contrast with the continual days of hard packed, icy groomers we've endured this January. I'd almost forgotten how much fun a great day at Crystal can be.
