Crystal - 01/14

Short report - Light crowd, variable conditions early, marginal good and bad grooming, off piste very variable early, but with the sun heat and temps sunny slopes were getting happy. There would have been no lift lines today except for the fact that it was a diesel covid day - some lifts running almost normal others kinda slow like REX, plus lots of starts and stops at odd times.  Weather looked kinda grey early, but went full on big sun by late morning as the temps started spiking. Lots of rain runnels on the the slopes, lots of big slide boulders in PB and Hamburger areas. But today was a nice day to be skiing after the big rain event. Snow pack is still very big and is very frozen in place....should be a great spring if we get a real spring.  #1 had a very nice day!

Other - Soup at CB lodge was Red Lentil? Ouch! Where is the Chicken Noodle?...not that would do me much good....

More Other - Pay lot was massive and not very full. B lot badly spaced single lines made it close to full...anybody want a job in the parking lots? , C pushing full and that was pretty much it....so a relatively light crowd. Lots of visuals of the trees that came down on 410. Drive up and down was reasonable with no elk noticed.

Just one update.  At noon, the power came back on and the chairs started running full speed again.  As soon as that happened, zero lines on REX and GV.  At 1:00, the sun consolidated REX chairline enough to make it fun, if skied with determination.  Finished the day with a couple of those.  Looks like some rain again tomorrow.

It was different top to bottom, side to side, north to south, and morning to afternoon. Windpacked new was smooth over breakable rain crust to start. Found a few good aspects up high and if you skied in command, you could beat it into some really fun submission. Hesitate, and all could be lost. By afternoon, it was warm everywhere. Some softened groomed, some deep potatoes, some just right. Tomorrow will be quite different. A fun day was had by all, but I’ll leave it to the weekend crowd to do some serious skier grooming.Ken

Epic day! Why? Because hardly any lift lines, with warming temps any east or south faces were like spring. Broke trail to the King and roared down into silver basin, first day besides touring the thighs were smoked.Hot damm!
