Short report - Great new snow, more than expected and as expected wind blown in some
place and loaded deep in others. Heard the hardcores saying it was the best snow
of the season and I do agree. But....
Really Big DAY! Big to early arrival, beat the CHex lift line set up folks, but not the
BIG hardcore powder hounds and the just regular hardcore skiers. Wait time for CHex
loading? Loaded early at 8:30 so only a hour plus wait with lots of hardcore socializing.
Next big thing - CHex stop and go all the way up - 50 yards...stop, 50 yards stop - ouch!
Nexter big thing standing in the REX line for the next hour listing to bombs in BP's -
double ouch!, but social again. Was pretty frozen by the time I got off the stop and
go REX ride (but not as bad as the CHex fun). Conversation where to go? REX line had
already blown up before first load...so its that big smooth untracked GV Bowl! OUCH!
I've paid more for some heli rides...turns looked nice from down lower, but by
the time I was half way up GV chair the slope was cut and diced by the straight
line crowd (sad thing about big fat mountain skis - makes everybody think they have
to straight line the biggest GS turns they can make....editorial comment). Did another
lap in the Valley, should have stayed there, but headed down LS - surprisingly nice and
relatively untracked with boot top deep fun. So one more REX lap, heard MIFB was skiing
very nice and it was very nice skier left with lots of untracked space still...
But by that point REX line was past my tolerance level (already stood in lines for a
couple of hours). So headed to FQex - nope, very busy, what time is it? 10am? OUCH!
Okay maybe SlowSilver...short line but mommy and child messed up the load area so
maybe Goldhills - no line, crappy lift opp loading for my legs, crappy icy clumps
inbetween nice soft piles, worth two laps cause no line, just to get a few more
vert before quitting way way way to early.
Other - No soup clue, Parking? OUCH again! As noted X-Tal has reopened part of the
A lot for free folks...Pay lot still was not full. B,C,D,E,H lots all full and F looked
90% full with way to many cars on the Blvd to fill what was left. And still cars
heading up 410 as I casually drove home. Apparently to many folks driving up single,
kinda like me...but I'm paying for the privilege.
