Nice groomers, some sun. Went hoping it'd soften up enough to pull out the snowboard and suck for a while but it stayed cold enough to keep the groomers firm but mostly edgeable. The leftovers up high setup thick, but not as bad as I expected. Took a lot of work, and I'm too lazy. The full insanity length traverse skier's left off skid road led to 5 very nice knee deep turns per lap, and a roller coaster bobsled run through the typical debris fields.
I should be out boarding in the rain, but chores win today.

With the oh noes about a late opening and heavy snow, we were fashionably late at around 9:45. Parked ~10 cars in from the lot 3 ramp, and walked up to a just spinning sky. Work continues on fixing 7th, an excavator and two cats were onsite. Sky is unloading to the right only, with everything above headwall closed.
Vis was fine, though sky was flat as normal. Light snow that didn't quit turn clear falling all day, but melted as soon as it hit anything. Snow was on the thick side of fun, about 6" on the hard layer. Deep enough that balanced turns kept you off it. Nothing too reactive or slabby, but a heavy turn on a 35d+ slow would kick off some heavy slough. Another XXX day.
Looks like the early crowd hammered Kehr's then up DD and SC, got tired and quit. People complaining of a slow opening and high avy risk.... Strong critical thinking skills there. So everything else that opened stayed nice through the day, with below ~4.5k getting a bit sticky.

"Light snow that didn't quit turn clear falling all day, but melted as soon as it hit anything." I think of that as "white rain."

Yeah, a day like yesterday has to have been a kinda hard day for the patrollers. You gotta respect the effort it takes to keep the mountain open in such conditions.

"white rain", I like that.
Climbing ~1000' up with half a foot of glop in the dark with high avy risk.... to intentionally make everything under you slide. If you do it well, you get to ski an ice sheet off some serious terrain. I do not envy that. I am very grateful for it, and I'm kinda masochistic enough to want to do it but they had 15 slots and over 90 applicants this year. "software engineer with no experience or qualifications" oddly didn't rank very highly.

Alpy patrol could use a few more pros. Maybe they'd be able to open the mountain on time with that.
