Call it a 2.5 out of 3 kinda day. Pay lot was small as were the crowds, although I was surprised to see half of C lot full and a third of B lot when I left. Lot's of sun breaks, filtered sun, and an occasional light snow flurry made for good visibility all day. There were some cold winds that had an occasional chair impact, but never uncomfortable. The snow at 6,000 feet and above was very good; Below 6,000 feet, pretty crappy, thus the .5 in the rating. Runs of the day were GV Bowl, Grubstake, Elk Snort, and Powder Bowl (over and over again). Took one run down the Campbell Basin side. It was a minefield of talus and rocks getting over to chute 3. Looked great, but dug up more rocks on my way down the top 1/4. Also, the snow had a bit of a wind crust on it, so not worth a repeat. As the lower half of Lucky Shot got skied out during the day, it actually improved from the morning crap and turned into packed bumps.
Once again, Crystal did very little grooming on REX and GV. Today, the lower faces and run-outs really needed it because the 5 inches of heavy snow with a frozen crust on top was difficult until it got skied out. Part of the new business model? Cheaper tickets mid week, but with reduced service?
Must have been in the zone today or maybe just zoned out. One of my runs down PB, skied within feet of ddk at the bottom of the bowl while he whooped and hollered at me. I didn't have a clue until he caught me half way down Lucky Shot. Good thing I no hurt someone...
