March 30, 2018 Timberline – 30 Day Ski Trip

We parked the campervan in the Timberline parking lot with our back window facing the south side of Mt. Hood. A nice view to watch the sun setting. We woke to a bit of sun, but the clouds were heading towards the mountain. A few climbers were arriving after their summit climb and a few more were starting to climb. By 9am the clouds were covering the summit down to the Palmer lift which is not running this early in the ski season. After all the years we've skied here we never ski on a weekend, but this was spring break and there were lots of short people and families. The lower half of the mountain is in the trees with sun breaking through. The first hour was firm and then it softened, and the next 2 hours we chased the sun slopes. Our last run was off the Magic Mile lift next to the race course along the climbers' trail. That slope is not usually skied and it was great (once the clouds lifted).

During the last 30 days Jill and I have driven 4,300 miles in our campervan. We have skied at Schweitzer, Whitefish, Bridger Bowl, Big Sky, Park City, Canyons, Steamboat, Breckenridge, Keystone, Copper, Vail, Beaver Creek, Heavenly, Kirkwood, Northstar, Bachelor and Timberline. It was a great trip by a couple in their 70's who still enjoy living in a 20 foot campervan and being ski bums!
