Kempers is permanently closed partly just cause its in RNP....they really dont like the boundary or the relationship with Crystal....anybody that does Kempers should spend some hard time....or at least some big dollars for the privilege....yada yada
WrongO DanO.
You can enter the Park through just about any boundary at Crystal. The closure of Kempers was requested by Crystal Mountain and is authorized and supported by the U.S. Forest Service and Mount Rainier National Park. The Park objected to Crystal avie controlling it as it's outside their boundary and Crystal didn't want to have people going into Kempers from the ski area if it wasn't controlled as it dangerous AF if not avie controlled. So, permanent closure from all sides. I think the rest of the boundaries have a good relationship with the FS and MRNP.
From my observations, Kempers is pretty good at grooming itself if it wants to. And if people insist (are stupid enough) on poaching it, Kempers will do a fine job of depositing them on Hwy 410 for pickup in the spring.

and crossed both Hwy 410 and the MRNP White River
Road. The tree pile in the spring was impressive by the park road.
