Short report – Fair crowd waiting for the early opening that didn’t happen…streak is definitely over. Snowing below 6500 most of the morning…Not in GV which had the best vis and the bowl had the best snow I skied today. Groomers okay, no lift lines, entertaining Last Ditch Effort Banked snowboard slalom in the gully at the bottom of SunnySide...
Lots of words report – Arrived early based on habit…early line up expecting early opening…but CHex did not start loading till close to 9am…pretty fuzzy vis early made
GV bowl a little challenging (but it was nice snow and got better as the vis opened up and stayed pretty nice in the Valley all morning), MIFB was nice first run with new snow on it and it was IceBerg good latter. Lucky was pretty average Lucky. Poked into BP’s – ouch! Boulder field…definitely one of my more slow and careful runs down it. Never really went anywhere much after that – mostly GV bowl to Ann’s run (nice) with alternating runs down MIFB and LS till the banked slalom started around 10:30ish…pretty tight short cranking run…only had time to watch a ankle bitter (good) do it first and later a very good guy slide through the course. Would have been fun to watch more of it…..#1’s tax appointment made me leave early (last year of that crap). Sun was popping out on top around noon. Skied down SunnySide a few times to see the top of the course…told all the snowboarders to do a better job of side slipping and grooming on mid SunnySide to get it in shape for this weekends big sun.
Other – Never went to CB lodge, soup at the base was Loaded Potato (how do you spell that Mr Ex VP Quayle). Parking was reasonable, C ¾ full, B not even close to half full. Pay lot pretty typical. Drive nice up and down. Only 9 more days at Crystal…only two for me. Looks like tomorrow will be extra early to beat the Chair 6 crowd.
