It was another partly sunny day with a great colored sunrise over the dramatic peaks. There were a few inches of new overnight. We are starting spring, so this could be our last powder day. When we rode the lift at Sunshine yesterday we met a young couple who were both wearing beards. They were at Lake Louise the day before, and their advice was to ski the upper trails and the backside on the Larch lift. When we arrived at the ski area this morning we asked an older Ambassador his advice – ski the upper trails and then go to the backside. OK, we can do that. Sunshine and Lake Louise use the same ski pass/badge for Mountain Collective users and pass holders. We were with the first 20 folks on the Glacier Express lift, and I heard the employees talk about “going high”. I forgot the lower trails and we rode the Top of the World 6 pack Express. Grizzly Gully is a narrow gully with rounded walls, a silky covering of fresh powder, and was just pure fun to ski. We passed a ski class and then it was ours. The edges of most of the groomed trails had 2-3” of new powder. The Summit Platter was partially in the clouds and no one was skiing the Back Bowls because of no/limited visibility. All the chutes and runs off Paradise lift were not skied in the morning as they were frozen solid. The Larch lift had wonderful terrain and the beginnings of spring snow. The front side was warming in the sun and spring was starting. We feel that Sunshine has so much more terrain and lift access than Lake Louise. The Back Bowls at Lake Louise offer challenging terrain in the right conditions. We are getting spoiled during our travels this season. It is another Spring Break for the kids. Short people everywhere plus great skiers.
