Varible conditions. And the wordy report - What a day!....Well maybe not for #1 (or even me). I always like going to check out the conditions after a nasty weather event and today was pretty interesting. The A lot was a sheet of walkable ice, it was kinda windy early and snowing at the base, nobody around, kinda a ghost town. CHex opened to three or four mostly full chairs and then the rush was over for us. #1 headed to FQex and I went up REX to find out what life would be like today…found out that I’m not a really good skier (at least on the first run with maybe the wrong skis…BMW’s). Saw a number of really really good skiers making really nice turns today. First run for me was down the Valley Bowl – probably nice…but…then decided to do MiddleIceFerkBerk – dang that was a mistake, probably my worst screwed up run of the season…variable wind blow and ice sheets and what ever… not happy for my brain condition today….Checked out Lucky which was more pleasant but still groomer icy. Noticed that the bottom middle of PB was a boulder field of ice balls – it will take a couple of feet of new to cover that mess…but also noticed late morning a lot of “real” skier/snowboarders having great fun either side of PB bowl – not me…to wimpy today! Skied some runs with #1 mid morning on FQex…pretty nice, but still pretty firm. Checked out GV late morning – no grooming, probably nice if I’d given it a chance…but my brain had already shut down. Very nice vis most of the day, looked really good mid day for the folks skiing HC after it finally opened.
Other – Luck of the day at CB lodge…Chicken Noodle soup! and it was good for my brain. No crowds, no lift lines, felt cold and a little windy at times. Pay lot was massive and a fair number of those folks did show up today. But nobody other than employees parked any where else than the A lot. Interesting day, always good to be on snow even if its not as nice as it was on Monday….the new snow seems to have plastered over a lot of the rocks I’ve seen recently…so it’s been a good nasty storm to finally provide some real Northwest snow pack.
