March 11, 2016 Alpental Rave

Today was a pleasant surprise with morning sun on great groomers (props to the Summit for their work last night!). Chair 2 was quiet and offered delicious bite-size servings of very pushable soft snow on Powder Bowl and Rollen (plus Lower Rol).
Clouded up by noon and rain clouds approached by 2.

Super stoked to get back on my tele boards ( very good day for the Nunataqs) after 3 years. The broken and grafted bits of my right knee seem to working just fine now. I love free heel skiing in soft conditions!

One day at Alpy more than makes up for a couple of missed nights...

Today was fun. The IFSA Junior Freeride comp will be held at Alpental tomorrow, so today there was a bunch of groms ripping up the venue while getting ready for the big day. Check out the 4 Rollen cliff drops in 15 seconds about half way through this vid:

Yet every one of these young, great skiers has an Old Man. The person responsible for taking them skiing so much, that they became that good. Old Man take a look at My Life.......I'm a lot like you were.

I can personally tell you that skiing together with my son, and sharing that passion, extends well beyond the comps and videos. It is an unspoken love that is unique. My highlight of 2016, getting a shout out from boy for jumping cliffs as I turn 50.
