I grew up skiing Tahoe resorts but had never skied this one till today. It's tough to drive past Sugar Bowl, Squaw, and Alpine to go to a local area with a limited reputation. I'd been missing something!!! First of all there was plenty of snow, including some light powder in the gladed trees. It was clear and cold and with views of Lake Tahoe everywhere it was a beautiful area. On a true powder day it would absolutely rock! Even though this is Christmas week, the lifelines were short and the prices about 60 percent of Squaw. We started the day early and took all morning to sample the perfect grooming on the assortment of trails and runs. We found the grooming and trails a fair match for the much larger Sun Valley. The 5 or 6 chairs are spread out over several small mountains and drainages, and following the sun is easy until very late in the day. Perfect gladed runs connect most of the trails. The lodges and most chairs are old and slow, but the natural beauty and rolling terrain make up for it. The only thing truly lacking is expert terrain. (Close by at Squaw)
