Summit Central, December 22, 2015 was created by Zap
Summit and Alpental had some problems today. It started with “no power” and the Pass was closed. I thought that it would change; fortunately I brought some things to read as I waited for the Pass to open. The highway crew, i.e. most of the cars, made the left turn to Alpental, but I went to Central. The Alpine quad and the Holiday lifts were loading butts. The 360 lift was running, but no one was on the lift. The ticket purchase line was long. The Alpine quad was quiet, and I met a skier who had learned that Alpental's opening was still delayed and it was not encouraging. After 2 hours the quad had long lines and the Silver Fir lift had stopped running. It was time to leave. I skied to the Summit Central lodge and Guest Services to pick up our grandkids' Season Passes. There was a long line inside and an employee said the line was even longer than what I could see. She said to come back another day or go to West when they have power. The line to buy day tickets was around the back of the lodge. Amazing! They had employees selling lift tickets to those in line for $60 cash. The 360 lift never did load. Alpental finally announced that they would not operate because PSE had not fixed the power problems. It was a unique day. I think I should have gotten up earlier and drove either North or South.

At least you didn't wait in line for first chair at Alpental for a few hours, decide to hop the shuttle to Central only to learn you were trapped at Alp because a bunch of folks decided to play bumper cars on the access road and get to walk almost a mile back up the road to your car because the shuttle couldn't turn around. The only saving grace today was beating the pass closure for avy control on the way home.
Alarm's still set for way too early. Gear's still packed ready to go. See you all at Exit 45 in the morning when we get to hang out because another boneheaded big rig driver decides he's better than the law, opts not to chain up his rig and gets stuck blocking all lanes of the road again.
P.S. - PSE's getting coal for Christmas this season. Say what you will about how hard their repair folks work, something has to change. This is the fourth or fifth major outage in the pass this year and their service has been generally terrible all across Western Washington. I know folks in Woodinville who've had more days without power than with it since Nov 1.

central express loaded @930 and it was glorious fall line skiing
next laps were clean lines at Sliver with Silas followed by some peppy billygoating pow fields with Norseman & JT Goats kid. no line issues or ticket scams, just good snow fun!
