Everything upper mountain opened for the first time. So much mountain to try to get to in the same one hour span, but when it's great where you are why move. 8-12 new, light and creamy. A lot of people lined up for over an hour for Glacier chair, but I was next door tracking that out. Backside into Blackcomb Glacier when I finally got up there was unreal! I went north toward the edge of Ruby Bowl for some perfect alpine softness. Even my last run to the bottom was great, staying in open low angle trees the novices don't bother with, all the way to the base.
I probably should have been at Whistler Peak chair, with the wind loading there must have been at least 6 feet ready to float. Anyone able to give a report on what it was like?
Last thing; being at a busy resort, even when there are not lift lines, makes me appreciate one of the beauties of touring. My thing is untracked or semi-tracked steep and deep. Busy places get tracked out so fast, and many of them have short steeps and long run outs after the goods. I feel like once you have a good skin track in you can get more quality vert without the frenzy, and your one chosen glade stays good all day.
