Since nobody has reported on the incredible (???ha ha) conditions today....this is it - The really Big Rain Report for Crystal…Parking lot a swimming river of 5 inch slush around 8:30! Yee Haa!. Raining with white stuff embedded both when we arrived and about the same when we left. Number 1 wanted her first day (and pass) of the season…no stress on me – upper mountain closed as announced – bigger dang cause I think it would have been pretty fine up top early in the day (telemetry showed light winds and since I found out what was happening at the bottom of REX and the top of FQex….its would have been happy nice for the big board crowd…oh well, it should provide a huge big happy locked in base by the time the current river dry’s up…. Number 1 wasn’t in primo perfect shape for the beginning so it ended up being way to short to count as a day of skiing. Snow quality on FQex was very nice, more folks around than I expected (duh?). Ultra tested the expensive goretex – it did work like a champ. This string of weather has been the big bonus we needed last year…could go into a big dry spell and life should still be good – but pray for that temp drop and big dumps!
Other – No soup at CB lodge????....actually no real food at CB lodge – hhhmmm early season? Pay lot over sized as usual…kinda funny that the rest of the A lot (single row parking with 15 foot gaps) was almost ¾ full? Lot of really dumb folks (me? Lots of folks would jump on that question)…but again I have to say that most of the conditions from the bottom of FQex up were really pretty decent…could have done it a few more times than we did (gonna have to get #1 into the hard core exercise mode and new boots) ….but just getting back and forth at the base was a big Big BIG pain in the ….
