Oh no…I’m back! Haven’t done a first day of the season at Baker since….2007…a long time and doing it on a Friday in the sunny conditions with lots of views, nice reasonable sized crowd, relatively easy drive up way to early this morning….but the drive home was just this side of obscene, especially since I was solo (no car pool lanes) and even on a nice sunny dry day, Seattle traffic pretty much can screw up everything on every highway, in every direction and even a lot of random unexpected places! Dang the trip back was the only bad part of today, oh and that on day 2 at Baker their main middle of the ski area lift (chair 5) was out of service all morning…lucky they got it going before I tried the snowmobile rope tow. Snow quality, somewhat better than expected in coverage, but they did get rained on enough to make things pretty firm and in high traffic areas it got skied down to sheet ice. Other places like Upper Canucks and North Face off chair 6 were very happy steep carveable drops and baby bumps. Did chair 8 early cause the patrol rumor was great grooming (hhhmmmmm….all relative). Nice sunny day, great to be on the skis again. Much fun. (note: no “big” words above, though it was really big blue, big fun, big views, big sunny and...…dang screwed up and bigged it again)
