Life and weather aligned for near perfection at Whistler the last three days (heard the new on Tuesday was also very nice). Drove up Thursday morning (way to early for my old age), arrived to perfect sun, perfect Village conditions, jumped into one of the – for me - first “new” sit down buckets (nice not to have to stand all the way up, but would be tight with 7 other big folks – why are all the buckets egg shapped?). Perfect variations of corduroy on all the groomers early every day, firm in places, butter in others. Light crowds on Thursday and Friday made for no standing around time and thanks to Harmony lift running on Saturday, even more no standing around time. Harmony had not been skied much recently, so it was smooth go anywhere soft up top and very nice bumps at the bottom – and with 6 seats there is a lot of space to spread out. Friday was my main Peak Chair day, just warm enough to make the bumps soft enough to be Happy! Even softer today, but my old lazy out of ski shape legs kept me from to many repeats. Lucky conditions were not to sticky most places. Red Chair cant last to much longer, the bottom gut is pretty awful. Upper mountain is primo and fun….if Harmony runs on weekends at least life will be good at Whistler till the extended end. Bike park at the base is full tilt “BIG”. Lots of riders, lots of trails, and lots of party conditions today.
Other – Had some good food on the mountain (no Chicken Noodle – they do have it, but its not as good as at CB lodge!). Parking was easy (and expensive). Drive times where the best I’ve had this year and the boarder crossings were not to painful. Might be the end of the lift skiing for me….HUH???....but you never know.
