Monarch was founded in 1939 and it's fun to see the old photos in the lodge. 4 lifts provide access to some great areas in and out of tbounds. A cat skiing operation started 26 years ago. There are also a few yurts nearby. The back-country terrain nearby is large. Jill and I were here about 7 years ago during a big storm that dumped knee-deep powder. We spent 2 days parked in a back lot. On a powder day you should ski Mirkwood Bowl and the Southbound area. Today was a spring day and the slopes were in great shape by 9:30am. Being old folks, i.e. super seniors, we received free tickets. Not bad.
