On the 18th there was a forecast for 3-7” overnight. With the spring ski weather there was the need for fresh powder. On the 19th the traffic was bumper to bumper with many turning off to Snowmass. I knew that Aspen and Aspen Highlands would attract the locals, and I thought no one would ski Buttermilk except the kids in ski school. At 8am we were the first vehicle in the parking lot at Buttermilk. We got free Aspen-Snowmass lift tickets for 2 days using our Mountain Collective passes. We were the first folks on the lift. There was 3'' of fresh snow at the base and 5” on top. There are 3 high speed lifts and we had fresh lines for 3 hours. The black trails were not groomed so the fresh snow was wonderful. Also half the blue trails were not groomed. When the ski schools arrived there were lots of kids skiing the groomers. It was obvious the tourist groups were not there. We had a great time -- run after run without any one else skiing the fresh powder. Not deep but 3-5” of fun.
