Spring Powder day at Crystal. Smoothed slopes up high in the Valley, plus a blanket of fairly heavy spring snow on the sunny slopes and nice stuff on the shady slopes. Fairly early and busy crowd this morning. Most everything was cut up rapidly by the busy crowd. Almost lines of an eternal minute or two…running solo I could pick what folks to abuse in the European style glut at the bottom – only happened a few times during the mid morning period. Off piste was variably nice, but some sunny slopes turned into nasty spring mashed something, others (my fav lines) got skied just enough to stay fun. Didn’t hear any complaints about having to suffer the conditions today. Just enough sun and heat to make life good. Nice views of Rainer through the breaks. Quit early to do the “be a good responsible person” duties. Will be brutal off piste in many sunny places tomorrow…shady slopes might still be nice.

Other – Heard there might be some reasonably priced food up top…they have a lot of left over items from the other closed restaurants to use before the season ends. The menu looked pretty interesting. Upper mountain all the way out south looked almost like winter again – but the big slides down Powder Bowl through Little Portillo and off the King made it look pretty iffy out south. Even had a pretty good slide on the steep slope at the bottom of the GV chair. Pay parking nice and small and as usual not full, rest of A lot was getting close to full. The new lift opp’s are entertaining. Fun day as usual. Kinda wonder where today would rank on the Powder days of the season – probably low, but there have not been very many.
