Another great day on a big mountain. Very variable conditions on every run, and at every hour of the day. Some people will come away saying today was icy, others slushy, and others complaining about lack of snow. For an observant skier picking the best spots to turn, and thinking about sun orientation, and the effects of elevation on snow hardness...today was a beauty! Upper Peak to Creek softened in the afternoon into nice skiing. Sun Bowl had predictable hard icy patches, but chalky edgeable snow in between - and the bottom was fantastic. Early in the morning I'm sure both sucked. The 3:00 sun and warmth around 5,000 feet turned the teeth chattering off piste snow into smooth corn on northeast facing aspects in the open. As always, the 4:30 run down was on freshly groomed tracks, and the bottom run out to Creekside was in perfect semi soft high speed condition with few bumps built up, and no bare spots. (They must have made some snow in the last two weeks) I am amazed to see this run still in such great shape. I'm going to try not to get too excited - but it does sound like Thursday and Friday may be powder days up top!
