Feb 28 - Taos, NM Powderarama was created by davep
It's been dumping in New Mexico for the past week. I was fortunate to make it down to the Taos area for the last few powder days. Today was the piece de resistance with 36" in 30+ hrs as of 3pm today. The snow was thigh to waist deep and total white room on anything untracked and even on seconds and thirds. Given the continuous dumpage it did take awhile for them to dig out the backside lifts.
Lots of good skiers/riders around with the Solomom Extreme Championships going on since Thursday. Today was supposed to be the finals but they were postponed as they couldn't see the contestants with all the snow.
Met a lot of powder hounds from Colorado, Sierras and even one guy who drove from Whistler.
The new Kachina lift just opened for the first time 2 weeks ago. It serves some great extreme terrain that used to require a 45 minute hike. It didn't open today, but I'm sure they'll get it open again when the snow stops.

I thought it would be CO. But I saw a posting for Taos last night. I was impressed that they put a lift on Kachina Peak. I remember hiking the 45 minutes for some powder. It was a while ago. I also teamed up with 3 women instructors to take me through Castor trail and other along High Traverse. They waited for me at the bottom.
A few years ago Jill and I skied Taos and Angel Fire where a friend is an instructor.
You had some more mileage and got a 4x4.
Fanstatic trip. Send some photos.
