Another late start because of springlike conditions had me skiing a great run on the Lower Dave Murray Downhill around 10:30 am. Best snow on the mountain, but of course I knew better and had to explore the Alpine. Upper Peak to Creek was my target as the yellow "Experts Only" light was flashing on the Peak Chair. The visibility was terrible but at least the snow was rock hard... Ran across a group stranded in the middle of the run due to vertigo and helped them along. Could only see florescent markers on one side of the run - and only one at a time. After visibility opened up a bit, I got the great idea to do an audio/video conditions report. After surviving that run, I went all the way to Creekside again and churned things up to highway speeds as there was hardly anyone around and the run was smooth and nicely groomed. Back on top I met friends and it started to snow. We skied a few laps on Harmony and it got to the point where the new snow disguised the ice below in some spots! If that kept up, the Alpine might have a short recovery tomorrow. Of course since Whistler cannot figure out how to record new snow on top of the mountain - the report shows no new snow today. By 3:00 they had at least 2-3" in many parts of the Alpine. Not enough to go off piste yet, but enough to help the groomers out. Another basically half day with 26,000 feet. Wife had no faith that the snow would continue, so we left before finding out if Thursday will be a powder day or not - probably not. Hope the link works - if it doesn't - "friend" me.
