Once one adjusts their expectations accordingly, riding in the rain turns-out to be not-as-bad as you remember it being. Sharing the experience with good friends and the occasional frosty adult beverage helps drive the stoke, too. Light attendance at the 2 resort made for nonexistent lift lines and the damp weather kept most of the groups at bay (except for the racers who setup course between Hogsback and Daisy). Coverage on the main runs is holding up and the snow was soft enough that adventuring "off-piste" was possible, albeit, undesirable. On/off showers throughout the day were just brief enough to avoid a soaking and each shower brought with it a new layer of 'raincorn' to play on. On the occasion the sun would peek out, the snow would begin to get sticky, but then the clouds would move-in, another shower would pass through and deepen the granular layer. Overcast breaks between showers would start the surface grains to set up, but another shower would pass through and re-soften them. After a number of wash cycles we decided we'd had enough and began our retreat down westbound 2. While it wasn't raining at all in the pass, it was pouring down at the hairpin. Odd, when you consider the NWAC telemetry shows 0.00" of precip. at the resort for that hour. Surprisingly, there was little traffic until Kenmore, which made for a pleasant - and quick - drive home.

No pictures on a (liquid) powder day.

I skied Whistler for at least 3 days in a row in the rain during early December. You're right - it's not that bad as long as you're not cold. I think some of my worse rain day memories involve the Skyline Chair and a strong wind in the face and 34-38 degree rain. That is not fun! The other part of bad rain memories, is the continuing advancement of gore tex like gear. Things used to be worse...

The difference a day can make. Today dawned cold and clear - the frontside was locked-up solid most of the day, while the backside softened just enough to be fun in the early afternoon. This time of year, el Sol is not so strong, but I suspect there'll be quite a few goggle tans in the morning. Considerably more folks out today than yesterday and although the snow wasn't as good, the weather was superb. Million dollar views in all directions, incl. that of Glacier Pk. and Mt. Daniel. Hoping this week's freeze-thaw cycles can preserve what little there is until next weekend (and possibly beyond) - even if it's freezer burned by then.
