Third try? Finally.... Great day in the private ski area called Crystal Mountain, arrived very late – 8:40, quick change and jumped on to a empty CHex at 9:05 (after the early rush), filtered sun early, but full on big bright warm sun before 10am, groomers (Lucky and Valley early) were smooth and perfectly groomed as a babies behind (but more carveable). Checked out HC pretty early, low gate into South Back below the Throne– very nice untracked deep snow, but the massively long traverse out there was just too long. PB was good, though a little lumpier in spots. Worth more than one cycle during the day…Finally did my apparently “fav” run around 10:30 – no fog, no grooming, lots of sun and heat – GV Bowl to MiddleIceFerkBerg…softening nicely in the sun, did not notice any rocks the first time, just to make sure did it a couple more times on skier left side…good soft and getting softer… Headed up to CB Lodge to check out the soup and after a very nice bowl of the WhiteBeanKaleMeatball(small sausage lumps) headed back up HC for another PB run – still good skier right, rocks on top, but easily stepped over and skied around. Spent the afternoon skiing SunnySide and Valley/FerkBerg. Thought about checking if NW still had anything worth doing – but wasn’t worth the effort or the lift ride. Fun day, no lift lines, nobody on the mountain, great early morning grooming that lasted all day, didn’t notice many rocks, coverage for the groomer crowd is great right now. Should be great again tomorrow…though a little lumpier off piste.
Other – As noted soupd was the big KaleMeatball special (and the first soup other than Chicken Noodle) that I have actually eaten – it tasted nice to me. Pay lot was bigger than some weekends or holidays (super computer really screwed that up) and was pretty empty when I left. If not for the Pay lot empty space everyone (including employees) could have parked in the A lot.
Other other – skied my BMW’s again today. Been a great ski since I got them last year, when I’m not on the Coombas. BMW’s – limited edition AfterShocks.
