Today we skied the Moonlight Basin area of Big Sky. With the Challenger lift closed, we drove to Madison Base area. At 8am we were the first vehicle in the parking area which was 20 feet from the area where you put on your skis and ski to the lifts. When we left after lunch, there were only 12 other customer vehicles in the lot. When we started the sun was out and it was cold, but there was no wind at the base. We rode the 6-pack express and never saw a lift line; it was “quiet”. Each day they have a list of groomed runs, but today the groomer list was short. We skied Six Shooter express, Iron Horse quad and Lone Tree triple. All the trails had great coverage. The sun lines were wonderful. We skied all the trails that had been groomed over the past 3 days. You could ski the entire trail because there was no one around. This is very unusual. During the morning there was sun with just a few clouds. At 11am there was fog in places. By noon it was foggy everywhere, the clouds had moved in, and it was flat light. We decided it was time to move on.

That sounds like fun. The JR Freeski Worlds were there last April and it was really quiet like that too. Day of the Final it was bad weather especially in the am and we had all those runs to ourselves too.
