This was my 6th day of the year and the snow conditions were the worst of the 6. The last two days of inversion warm temperatures were not kind to the snow. Also coverage is getting thin again, although the groomed was surprisingly well covered. To make up for the poorer snow conditions, we lucked out on the weather. From the base of REX up, we were above the lowland rain and the base fog and had mostly clear skies. The sun never got intense enough to do any sun warming of the snow, so things stayed firm all day. The best snow on the mountain was Powder Bowl (after getting through all the rocks) and, once again, Green Valley. Heard some good things about the top of Brand X, but imagining the carnage the other 2/3s of the way down Northway, we skipped it. Another surprise today were the crowds. No power outages, but the longest lines of my 6 days. Weird, as the parking lots weren't quite as full. I guess today's crowd came to ski and not sit in the lodge.
Rex had sequencer problems and caused an extended stop because two chairs got stuck together at the top. Also, the grooming report again stated Ferkberg was groomed…but it wasn't. The first run down was brutal. I hunted down ski patrol and told them they need to update the report or they would be busy hauling injured intermediates out off there.
#1 took a bathroom break in the Campbell lodge and reported chicken noodle was the soup again today.

Thinning, hard, and rocky as the temperature dropped from a 6am 36 to 24 degrees at 2:00. Grooming covered the rocks on Luckyshot and lower Iceberg for awhile. Nothing could cover the hard moguls on most of the off-piste. Bottom half of Powder Bowl was nice (not worth the Lucky-Skid Road-FQ-C-6 round trip, however). Green Valley skied out nicely as did C3 chairline. Grubstake took some focused ice-pounding, but a fun line was found. If the Sunday-Tuesday snow level rise happens as forecast, we’ll be in for some hurt.
