A beautiful, mostly bluebird day at Crystal. Arrived at 8am and parked 5 rows back in the free parking…in the sphincter. Drunk-O guy had the pay lot huge. The last 8 rows of the pay lot never had a car in them. Oh well, on to the conditions. Hard packed powder every where, the best being GV Bowl. Made it up the new C6, which is very nice. Campbell Basin was firm and a little chunky. Powder Bowl was better, but variable conditions with a mix of nice packed pow, slightly softened chicken heads, and some scraped smooth. Still skied nicely with a little hunting around. Hooked up with ddk in Powder Bowl and ended up chasing him around the mountain the rest of the day. Around 11am, the sunny slopes had some softening and the left side of Ferkberg got very nice, unlike the first run down in the morning. Note of caution. The Crystal grooming report indicated middle Ferkberg was groomed. Not riding the goodie in the morning, we didn't get a visual on it. When we dropped in, not groomed. It will be difficult for any grooming until more snow fills in the bottom. Also with some sun softening, Memorial into the gully was surprisingly good.
Not a lift line all day and coverage is great. In fact, if they get the anticipated snow dump tomorrow, I'll be putting the rock skis away for a while.
On the way home, got stuck behind a car going 40mph on 410 with at least 30 cars backed up behind him. ddk had the same issue yesterday. Folks, look in the rearview mirror and if you have traffic backed up, pull over! Lot's of questionable passing to get around the one buffoon.
