March 2, Ski Acres and Hyak was created by Jim Oker
I took the dog for some XC skiing at Gold Creek, which was very nice today - soft, fast, quiet, smooth, pretty. And out of the east wind except for the lap around the pond. Then caught up with wife and friends on the Silver Fir lift. They were all smiles, and things only got better as the crow thinned further (they had more or less no lines all morning) and the snowfall intensified a bit. On any steep bits, it was easy to get an edge into the coral reef beneath the cold light fresh snow. Which is why we were at wimpy old Ski Acres (is the place for me) - lots of moderate pitch terrain which skied delightfully with the new snow. Then took the crossover to Hyak and found plenty of boot-top mostly-untracked both on the backside and front, as well as more nice thick soft stuff where folks had been skiing. And lots of empty chairs going up. It was a very sweet multi-ski-sport day.

Good to hear someone else braved the WX and enjoyed the 'Yak.
Here's our early AM perspective...
Hyak skied much better than expected with 3-4 inches of NW fluff atop the hardpan crust for an ice-cream-cream-ice experience. First chair a few minutes early allowed us to enjoy a couple of runs in fresh tracks on fats. Backside was pleasant as well. Laid down the first tracks off piste line thru Squirrel Forest and the undercrust was dealt with only occasionally. All in all, glad we went up. Cold though – 18-22F and snowing the whole time. TomK & Kerry.

Any prognosticators out there that can lend some insight as to what it might be like when they open 90 presumably some time today? Looks like the forecasted rain is holding off and they may not be running the chairs so far for the normally blessed local populace. Tempted to go up and get some, uh, outlet mall shopping in with gear at the ready.

Spoke too soon - they closed for the day. Darn.
