Feb 14, 2014 Mission Ridge

Most of the mountain is now open.  Only the Bowl 5 area is still closed.  It finally looks like winter.  Skiing in bounds is really good.  Sara and I had a valentine's date at the Ridge and I am claiming that Friday was the best skiing of the year at Mission.  The new snow is cold enough to ski silky smooth, but has enough water in it to provide protection from the barely covered rocks below.   A whole lot of people skipped work on this Friday.  Even chair rides were fun since everywhere there were people skiing fast and spraying snow.  Some of the video I'm sharing was shot from the chair.

Here is a photo I lifted from the WenOut forum of the patrol AC results in Bowl 5 on Thursday. 

Pretty impressive.  The natural slide Jtack shared here is just beyond the photo to the right.  Even though we were in bounds, most of my group was skiing with transceivers and I wore my float pack and carried shovel and probe.   Snow right now; I love it, but I don't trust it.

It is supposed to nuke up there again today...
