Crystal - 01/16

Yeee Haaa! Big day by anybody’s impression. Big sunny, big warm, big early fun. Started with lots of fast Valley to MiddleIceFerkBerg (nicely groomed fast and smooth). Heard PB wasn’t good enough, but it looked great, so I did my fav line multiple times – nice. Big fun, big vert, lots of SunnySide and Showtime runs on REX. Best till around 1pm was PB/BP’s. After that all the last sunny mucky slushy slopes. Managed to get biggest vert day all by myself without MrFerk or Ms M. Full on spring day – Hawaii Shirt fun.
Other – Big soup at CB lodge, good Chick Noodle. No lift lines, no crowds, Pay lot empty, rest of A lot full, not much else.

A big day by April and May standards. Slightly crunchy early, it quickly succumbed to the heat for mid-morning Frontside bliss. And then went to un-consolidated glop other than a narrow band of Showtime. Tried Powder Bowl, but Main Chute was surprisingly firm and rutted. Green Valley held the best mid-day snow. At 1:00, as the sun lowered, the Frontside came back as the re-crisp started. Today's skier compaction and an overnight freeze/thaw will improve consolidation. Seeing the rocks that came out since yesterday that were soaking up heat like mad today, doesn't bode well for the coverage lasting through a busy 3 day weekend. With no new snow in sight for a least a week, better get it quick.
