January 7, 2014 Bridger Bowl, MT was created by Zap
We spent the night in Bozeman, and drove about 16 miles to Bridger Bowl the next morning. We got there early and got a great parking spot near the lifts, and by the time we left all of the lots were full – with kids from UM who’d returned from the holidays but didn’t have classes until Wednesday. It snowed all day on top of 2” from overnight, so the conditions were very nice. Bridger has grown with a new lift, Schlasman’s, which offers expert terrain to 8800’ at the upper ridge and gives access to Mundy’s Bowl and Slushman’s Ravine. We got to the top of Pierre’s Knob lift and heard the “peep” of the transceiver checker pole which is a place to check your transceiver. Each time we got to the top of the lift there were another few skiers/boarders checking their gear and starting to hike up the Ridge. The upper Ridge Terrain was covered in clouds, and the terrain we could see was a bit sketchy. It reminds me of the numerous Ridge Terrain shots in the Warren Miller movies. After skiing for a while we headed to Big Sky.

inbounds transceiver checking machines are nice when they work or get turned on.
