Crystal - 01/03

Didn’t feel very healthy this morning, called the report, checked the telemetry, how could I miss one of the “epic” dumps of this season – ha ha. But there was enough to get me going and when I arrived the big clear sky and sun on the top of the peaks looked very nice…The new snow made Crystal look almost like winter, clean and smooth, actually the new greatly improved a lot of runs – every little bit helps. SunnySide was firm under the new and never skied out enough for many repeats, but Hamburger, GreenValley, SnortElk Bowl and PB made up for it. New snow was nice and deeper in lots of wind loaded areas. The bright sun was warm early...but around noon a cold wind blew up valley and brought some swirling fog, that and a sore throat sent me home early. Skied out Stump Farm and Skid Road – both nice again today and pretty skiable.

Other – Soup at CB lodge was CCC, California Medley (?) at the base. Some lines at times in GV. Pay lot normal, C lot maybe half, cars in B lot. Should be lots of great lines out South for a few days.

This was a really good day , only about 40 people in the gondola line at the start, powder bowl and HCB skied way over expectation It did cloud up at noon in the resort but out south the vis was excellent and you could still ski a clean line at 3. So to review, totally sunny, new snow, light crowds..........and great out south.............just like real winter.......happy people/ Happy New Year

I'm looking to take my kids out tomorrow.  Were the groomers icy?

  In case nobody else responds...Crystal hasn't been doing much grooming this season and its pretty random on the upper mountain.  Tomorrow being the first ski school day of the season they may do more, but you never know.  Seems like they usually report some grooming FQex, but some slopes ha vent been touched that you can see from the lift. PS. Justed checked the ski report info on Crystals web site...looks like the whole world will be groomed tomorrow, should be some pretty nice speed runs on smooth. Have fun!

Word from the web site and various parties is MAJOR groom tonite. The resort has been blowing snow into Green Valley and the Discovery area. Look for t to bs as Ferks, Luckey, and stump get buffed up as well as Forest Queen runs. I am very grateful that the mountain has skied so well with our megar year. This weekend should be spectacular.
