Happy first day of 2014! Lots of nice early cold sun with a few high cloud bands blowing by, put the middle part of the day was baseball glove warm sun. Big views of the cloudy muck in the lowlands of PS, plus the Olympics all the way to Hood. First run down Lucky was pretty (brutal) nasty early (no grooming), but as is usual for “the hamster” things got better. Upper GV Bowl was nice but firm and choppy, lower half of GV early was pretty much firm crispy – can I say ice? Almost? Didn’t repeat it very often, so it must not have been that good. Did get some nice sun bake soft on the line they used to groom off the top of GV chair….which lead me to Sunnyside – nice and smooth with a couple new untracked inches left over from Monday afternoon, but it was just never Goldilocks perfect. PB was good, rocks off the top not so bad, upper bumps getting bigger, mid section smooth carevable but firm, lower bowl kinda crispy since the skier traffic was kinda light. Then I bumped into Mr Ferk on his 72nd B-day….Ouch, I spent the rest of the day chasing after him. One nasty run down BP ice, but a whole lot of other nice fun fast soft smooth runs between skier left of IceFerkBerg to SunnySide. Good smooth places – Upper M-World, lots of times and skier left on Middle Ferks. Expected to finally get a big vert day and Mr Ferk put the icing on the B-day cake!
Other – Soup at CB lodge was (dang) Loaded Potato (how do you spell potato?), got lots of sorry for that. No lift lines, rocks are out there, but the last few hamster snow dumps have improved things. Saw lots of happy folks skiing. Pay lot never got full (duh), C lot maybe almost 3/4, B lot pretty empty shuttle stop (or less). Lots of tourist riding the Gondy. Bumps everywhere are getting bigger – Yee Haa! Happy New Year.
