Crystal - 12/04

Very nice day, light crowd, but slow upload early through the slow Gondy, after that painful part it was pretty much empty everywhere, especially early when HC was the focus of most folks. Great snow in Campbell Basin, but the ridge run out to the Throne was pretty rocky in spots. Better option off the top of the Queen was Powder Bowl – very nice and easy to get to and big easy soft. Lots of sun early kept the temps okay, but late clouds and colder temps during the afternoon got most folks off the mountain, was kinda quiet and lonely when we finally left. Ski out to the base down Chair 4 line was not a problem. Rocks in spots, more rocks in high impact areas, but lots of the main areas - GV bowl, Lucky Shot and what little of the FQex area I saw or skied was okay. Felt some sun impact on some of the sunny slopes, but mostly squeaky cold snow.

Other – Soup was Chicken Enchilada again, actually had a bowl(? not very big or bowly), very good. Pay lot still full of a big snow pile and not much else, looked like the A lot got almost fullish. Great day

The cut snow on Rex firmed up significantly overnight which drove us to lap some low angle boot-top new on Forest Queen while waiting for 6 to open. We got the 5 minutes to go signal and after a short line, were up. It only took 10 minutes for the first part of the Campbell Traverse to succumb and grind down to the rocks. Once off the traverse, however, very nice snow. An hour and 15 minutes later, it was tracked out and nearly deserted. Powder Bowl stayed good till afternoon when it started firming up. The Luckyshot return was also rocking up in the troughs. I was really surprised how much sun damage happened even with the single digit temps. Ended the day with hanging P-Tex, a few core shots, and some big grins. Gonna be some tough times with no snow for a week. Think I'm on the wait for the next storm list.
