Finally since Crystal is closed I got an enjoyable early season day at Baker – very nice sun to filtered sun day, warm – almost Hawaii shirt conditions, very good coverage on the slopes that are open (the ones I did anyway). Spent the day on Chairs 5 and 6. CH 5 allows doing the natural half pipe area – very nice today with variable sized bumps and drops and rolling terrain. CH 6 goes up to Panorama Dome via Canucks’s Delux! Upper Canuck’s skiers left was very nice packed powder bumps and drops and rollovers and just plain fun skiing. That was pretty much my day a few on one then a few on the other, no lift lines, nobody on the mountain really. Again the coverage is pretty great compared to Crystal and the runs are bigger and longer – though the slow quads allow for much solitary contemplation of the views. Baker has some great views of big mountains from Shuksan to the “real” Baker. Long drive up and even longer drive down – especially the nasty Seattle area. Would have been better to ski late and spend time in one of the local hangouts up north. Heard this last weekend crowd was not really that bad, so if you want to ski some less “rocky”big slopes I’d recommend Baker.
Other – forgot to check the soup, parking front row 20ft from the lodge at 9am – think there were only two rows when I left.
