Crystal Mountain ROCKTOBERFEST 10/1/13

Was one of the lucky few yesterday! Made it on the second gondola up (of about 10, total) and got a clean line all the way down Green Valley, something I've only pulled off a handful of times over the years (and definitely never in October!) Conditions were far better than expected up top, with nearly 2 feet of snow on the top 1,000ft. Plenty for powder turns! The smart thing to do was to stay high and run laps; we did that once and opted to ski top-to-bottom and ride back up. Conditions deteriorated rapidly, as one would expect. I made it almost all the way to the base of Quicksilver, but that was a stretch. The walk was longer on our second lap, when we tried to ski down Kelly's Gap. Still, it was completely worth it for the goods up top. On our last lap, we dropped down into Snorting Elk Bowl from Northway, and laid the only three tracks down it. I don't expect to pull that off again this season!

Huge thanks to Crystal for sharing the goods yesterday! Brilliant move on their part. Looking forward to another great season there, and everywhere else in the PNW. Yesterday was a great way to kick off '13-14!
