Desperately in need of August turns, I headed south to the land-of-no-sales-tax after work on Friday to bag some turns. I made great time to PDX and after stopping for supplies, found myself pitching a tent in the dark outside Govy before midnight. Awoke to bluebird skies and cool temps at sunrise and headed up. Plopped on the Mile at 9 and hammered out a handful of laps while waiting for the park to soften. Spent the hours from 10-noon catching air, then resumed eurocarving on untouched snow between the racing lanes in the afternoon. Caught last chair @ 1:30 then headed all the way down Mile Canyon and it was only a 5-10 minute walk back to the tailgate where frosty beverages and Clif bars awaited. Back in camp by 3, it was time for a dip in the lake and an afternoon nap in the sun before heading to town for some grub. Caught the Huskies victory over a burger and pints before heading back to the tent for some rest. Surprised to find cellphone service, much less 4g coverage out here, but I can't complain. Heading back up in the AM to guarantee myself September turns and complete my first TAY.
UPDATE:
Sunday brought slightly warmer weather and a lot more vertically-inclined earn-your-turners to the slopes. Spotted easily a dozen folks hiking up from the parking lot to slide back down throughout the day - stopped to chat with a few who looked familiar
Caught a few laps on the snowfield with a friendly fellow from California who was in his triple digits of consecutive months making 10+ turns and even bumped into a few familiar Lot 4 occupiers in the parking lot at the end of the day and chatted over cold ones and sandwiches.
Completed my first TAY and capped an incredible 85 day season:
