Day started with unknown promise early – but the winds were swirling around the base of the bucket at 8am, by 8:15 Crystal gave up on the Gondy for the early up load so we all moved to CHex and stood around what felt like painfully long time before loading and then it was a start and stop wind storm. Suffered the next couple of hours doing laps on CHex ( Stump, Tinker, Deer, Lower FerkBull), all soft but getting sticky for my skis (dang I should have waxed last night or at least this morning). Things looking kinda grim, made comments about maybe Alpy would have been better (till I just saw the lift line pics), but around 11 REX and the Gondy started running and loading – slow early, but faster as the day progressed. No lift lines at Crystal – even the Valley was pretty mellow. Not much Cinco effort to be seen, expensive food at the top of REX, Taco truck overwhelmed by the crowd, no food anywhere else? Lots of soft snow when REX started running, but it was a hour plus passed real prime. Managed to ski from start to end but the legs felt yesterday and the long week off. Pleasant at the base at 4pm, but no real party going on.
Other – By the time we left most folks had bailed, did not notice how full the parking lots might have been. No Chicken Noodle as was pointed out to me at the top restaurant – just over priced food. Fun day, big sun, to big winds early from the way to wrong direction, but we got lucky and ended up with a nice 5th. Rocks and dirt starting to pop out in the typical places, but over all coverage is still great. Long range forecasts indicate maybe another sunny weekend – that would be big.
