April 20, 2013 Stevens Pass

The forecasted 3" snow started about 8 hours late, so we headed out leisurely from Ski Cruisers cabin to find surprisingly pleasant snow on closing weekend.  Light snow started so we didn't get wet much, and there were several inches of old new from earlier in the week.  Soft heavy atop old rain-soaked base, simple to ski except where there was a crust. In the PM the off-piste got worse but anything already cut up was almost corn-like. 
Stevens showed 501" for the season on its website before last weekend.

No argument there! I'm guessing they decide partly based on numbers from the previous weekends, how many new people buy passes for next year (also usable this spring) and other revenue projections. There will be snow there for weeks and weeks, but the slopes and lines have been pretty empty the last 2 weekends even with new snow and partial lift closures.
