April 14, 2013, Stevens Pass

Big crowd for final day festivities, mile long line for parking at 10AM, sun made the southside heavy early, north slopes skied soft all day. Busy inbounds, not so bad in the sidecountry. In and out warm sun made nice BBQ weather in the afternoon.

We got there before nine:) Good snow turned heavy pretty fast - then after it was skied out it turned nice in the sun. Wasted the afternoon drinking beer and watching the pond skimming...Lots of fun till a big guy with too much speed ran the pond - caught 15 feet of air - couldn't turn - and hit the fence and the people behind it. Time to go...Too bad we missed you! Thought you were always at Crack Mountain and Hyjack.

hey now, an afternoon spent wasted is never a wasted afternoon

wish I'd been able to make it this year, but the lure of the ch2 sirens' song was too much for me to resist. Guess I'll have to make do with tomorrow's bonus day of operations...

Saturday was THE day!!  April Pow, no lines.   

No lines Sunday, except for buying beer----excellent slowly-tracked light snow in Chief Bowl and the trees above E Lot.  I met up with Wolfs and we hiked to Toilet Bowl (very gloppy), then Highland Trees (more sheltered but tracked).   Anything exposed to the sun or just the sky got heavy, while higher aspects on the highway side stayed lighter longer.  Great vis and sunny periods made for an esthetic day---powder in the middle of April   

Saturday was THE day!!  April Pow, no lines.   

I concur! Light pow all day Saturday and no lines all day. We skied open (before 9am) until our legs gave out at 3pm, still finding untracked in the trees. First two runs down Southern Cross before 9am was pretty epic!!!

Pond skimming looked like fun though, always entertaining!
