April 13, 2013 Summit Central

It was a nice powder day, like in mid-winter.   It was quiet at Central, probably because most people were at Alpental which had more snow and should have been great on top.  We got in line at 8:45am and were on the 3rd chair.  The lifts loaded at 9am.  We skied the groomers which had about 4” of new and never had a lift line.  As we left, there were numerous skiers and boarders with smiles and grins.  There were people skiing all the trails all of which looked nice.   After 2 hours the untracked was skied out in the Silver Fir area and the temperatures were about 32 degrees and getting warmer, so it was time to go.  It was snowing the whole time we were there.   Heading west on I-90 there were 7 snowplows working the road and keeping it cleared of snow.  We had a nice day, although it wasn’t what you usually think of for spring skiing.

Mark Twain is known to have said, "The coldest winter I ever spent was my summer in San Francisco." Maybe we'll have to say, "The coldest winter I had at Silver Fir was in the start of my spring break!" ha!
