Had another week of mostly sunshine at Sun Valley. Those fast groomers seem to please lots of people, but I sure wish I could have skied some powder or - at least gotten off piste some. (Everything that wasn't groomed was hard as a rock from an earlier thaw followed by 5 degree nights). For our big vertical day, we skied 65,000 vertical feet which I found out wasn't much of a big deal there. Some 72 year old guy on the Gondola told me he did 72k last month...Everybody there skis fast as the visibility is good, there are no bumps, and the ski patrol doesn't care. Met one big guy who said he had gone 90 mph the day before and recorded it on his I Phone! Picture shows the day after a few inches of bad wind affected snow. Two inches of wind slab cake covered hard as a rock, uneven icy, chunky bumps in "The Bowls". Our tracks on skiers left give amazingly little evidence that this slope was nearly "unskiable". Since there was still fresh snow available at close to noon we should have known better...but we were hard up. Going to try for January next year!
