A few years ago we had season passes at Kirkwood, before Vail bought the area. Wednesday was a great sunny day with high clouds. We followed the sun to great cream. Since our last time here, they have added 3 poma lifts. One provides access to some very steep couloirs from Lookout Vista that don’t have any moguls. It really surprised me because there were no moguls like at Squaw Valley in similar terrain. The 2 other pomas provide access to Covered Wagon Peak and beyond that to Mellisa Peak and Fawn Ridge. Kirkwood has open backcountry terrain. Jill and I have toured around the area and have seen quite a bit of it. Kirkwood is on the Sierra Crest which provides lots of snow and wind that often closes the high lifts.
I think Jill is passing me with a smile.
