Jill and I arrived at Squaw Valley at 5pm on the 28th, and it was raining slightly -- not good. I got up early on the 29th and the sun was out (in spite of the forecast for rain). We usually move to the Far East lift area but the lift looked closed. We went to the main lot, and there were tons of kids heading to the slopes and the lifts (race things started at 8AM). We learned that all of the activity was for the US Alpine Championships taking place there this weekend. The slopes had lost a lot of snow from our last trip 3 weeks ago. We took the tram and the groomers had great corn. We followed the sun and it was great. It was fun to watch Grandma just having fun on the steep, expert groomers. We had a good day, but started looking forward to touring in the Eastern Sierra. It’s been 3 years since we skied along highway 395. It sounds like there’s not much snow for touring down here, so it may be a short trip. We arrived in Bridgeport late last night at one of our favorite places. On March 30, we woke to the sun hitting Matterhorn Peak at 12,279’ and the Sawtooth Ridge. Now the real trip starts. We’re going exploring of our favorite areas even if we can’t ski again!
