Mar 19, 2013, Alpental, Blue Sky Special

Ullr called-in a favor from Moses who parted the overcast skies above Denny Mtn this morning. With a foot of new, low density snow since closing bell on Sunday on top of last weekend's rightside-up dump, conditions were on par with the best of the season. Lower gate was open from the start and the small crowd (approx. the capacity of Chair 2) wasted no time in getting theirs. Around 11:30 a large group began to form at the top of the padded seats as rumors began to circulate that the upper gate was about to drop. Sure enough, Nash gate opened to the two dozen or so waiting powder hounds a hair before noon. First tracks were had all the way to the valley floor with hoots and hollers echoing down the valley. I never got out past the Cleaver, so I can't report on the conditions out there, but what we had the fortune to lap in the near bc was stellar and a fitting finish to the winter season (spring starts tomorrow, Wed. Mar. 20th).

Do watch out for creek holes - the previous pair of rain events have opened things up down low. Roxoff is probably done for the season due to a ramp-wide climax release about halfway down and the previous week's climax events in Elevator and Rock Face are thinly covered w/ open glide cracks. Saw a lot of close calls today, be careful out there!

Glad the economy is improving, or whatever it was that caused the crowds to stay at work or somewhere else away from Alpental today.  It was a pleasant and well behaved (except for Crispin?) crew who enjoyed the gift of new snow, sunshine, short lift lines, and long, untracked ski lines all day. flowing, perhaps Crispin did not recognize you with your new face?

That was quite a day. Crispin seemed well-behaved in the afternoon, and we were still skiing untracked @ 3:45 . . . Glad your knee is better, Silas!
