We heard that a recent storm dumped 24” on 3/6 and 4” on 3/7 at Mt. Shasta. It was sunny, and you could see the recent snowfall was skied over the last 2 days. The elevation is 5500’, and the school bus groups were arriving to get their rentals. Our senior rate was $25. We started skiing the Marmot lift and it was fun groomers. The Douglas lift had the West Face run under the lift that had been skied, but no one was sking it today. The snow was setup mush from the last few days and the rocks were showing. The other trails were black runs that were groomed and they were great. Jill and I just had fun on the groomers. There was a great view of Mt. Shasta, and we could see some tracks in Powder Bowl. We talked about skiing Powder Bowl, but yesterday the snow level was at 6000’ and today was even warmer. We parked overnight in Shasta City, and this is the first year I have ever seen snow in town. We rode the Coyote chair with an elevation of 6880’, and we skied the black runs that were more fun because the groomers were great. It was obvious that the recent storm was needed. On the south-facing runs the snow base was pretty skimpy, and the coverage in the trees was sketchy. It seems the Cascades have received most of the snow and The Sierra range is still hoping for more. Home bound.
