The storm finally arrived and we parked our van at Squaw Valley and took a shuttle bus to Alpine Meadows.
March 6: it was snowing and winds at the crest 50-70mph. The upper lifts at Squaw Valley were closed and the upper lifts were also closed at Alpine. They received 6” overnight and it snowed another 8” during the day. The ridges were icy because of the winds and the troughs were in great shape. They were hoping to open the Summit Express but we did not stay until 1pm especially with the wind. Scott, Lakeview and Sherwood chairs were also closed. The tree trails were fun with great powder.
March 7: It snowed a bit overnight and had a slight snow shower with slight wind. We knew the great skiers and boarders would be at Squaw Valley so we took the bus back to Alpine. We got in the Roundhouse Express for the 10th chair. The first groups were in Summit Express so had great powder. There was 20” powder in the 2 days. We rode the Summit Express and the visibility was not great until we got at the tress. We rode the Scott chair to access the Lakeview chair which had great new powder. The best runs were off the Sherwood Express. No lift line and great fun runs. Both ski areas need more snow to open new terrain. We did have some great powder skiing.
