February 25, 2013 Mt. Hood Meadows was created by Zap
I decided to ski in Oregon after a few years and the forecast was great. I put chains on the camper and it was great driving in a full snow storm with wind. I decided to ski Mt. Hood Meadows and parked at the Hood River Express parking lot. The road was plowed during the night but another 6” feel in the lot. It was the first storm for me to ski powder since my stroke last February. It was different skiing untracked and tracked powder that was 9” and light powder (16-23 degrees). Untracked was great again. Tracked up was more work .The wind was blowing and there were new lines after 2 runs. Cascade and Vista Express were on standby during my visit. There is so much terrain that I have not skied in 3-4 years. I saw the Private Reserve which was not open back then but my body was not ready yet. Shooting Star Express had the Heather Canyon opened at the Half Moon Bowl. I got there a bit late but there was a foot or more from the wind. I’m getting back into skiing untracked. Skiing untracked powder in steep terrain felt good with trees around. I took the Heather chair out of the Canyon. As most locals realize, the trail map gives you now idea of what is in the Heather Canyon and Clark Canyon Private Reserve.
